May

Our May 5th bird ID hike led by Anne Koeppe was about PERFECT. Lee Swanson guided us around the trails at Swamplovers, and the bird/plant knowledge from both of them plus our hikers was abundant. The birds put on a spectacular show for us. Many were heard and seen, with the highlight perhaps being the Scarlet Tanagers. Swamplovers is a priceless resource, right here in our township. June

June 2nd Garage Sale/Flea Market - A HUGE thank you to everyone who participated in our first garage sale/flea market. Especially to the core group who planned and organized. Everyone had sales, met new people, the weather was terrific, many leftovers went straight to St Vincents, and even if the asphalt was torn up mid-way through the day, it did not spoil our efforts. It was work, it was fun, and a good thing to have done. After expenses for advertising and beverages were deducted, the Berry Backyard Club made about $300 from user fees, proceeds from the bake and plant sale, and the BBC Club's own table of wonderful garden related items, masterfully organized by Bobbie Fehr! Thank you to those who baked delicious cookies, cakes and pies, including Deb, Donna, Mary, Susan, and Vera. Thank you chief gopher and bake seller Char. Thank you Tracy for being a terrific treasurer and organizer. Thank you Brenda, unfailingly patient and always willing to help out.

August

Our Saturday August 4th Prairie Hike with Barb Borns through her gorgeous property and restored prairie and several native remnants was enjoyable and informative. Years of painstaking, loving labor helped along with 1 FWS and 2 DNR grants, have created a beautiful restoration on Barb's Town of Vermont property. Regardless of this summer's heat and drought, prairie flowers were blooming and easy to identify among this season's shorter grasses. Many thanks for all that you do Barb. With much appreciation, BBC.

Saturday August 25th: Our member and guests annual garden tour and picnic was another wonderful evening. Steve Richter gave us a very interesting history and tour of his unique Table Bluff property, after which we enjoyed our potluck picnic and friends in Char and David Ohnstad's gardens. Thank you very much to our generous hosts for superb time

September
